During the month of July (2016) I started a journey with Weight Watchers. I was following the program on my own and tracking points using the Smart Points program. I enjoyed this, it was a good fit for me. August rolled around and I decided that I didn’t need to follow this program, that I would be able to keep myself in check and maintain the weight that I lost while on WW. Not surprisingly , this was not the case.
While I was on the program I was able to lose 15 pounds. It really kept me focused on healthy, clean eating and choosing the right foods to fuel my body. I am in no way over weight. I do not have a lot of weight to lose. Actually, if I had of kept off those 15 lbs I would have been happy to maintain, but really I need to focus on being fit and healthy.
I have 2 children. A boy who is 7 and a girl who is 5 years old. I care what they see me eat. I want them both to want to choose healthy foods. I want them both to not care about the scale. I want them to associate fitness with fun. I want my daughter to not worry about the number on the scale, but rather to be strong and healthy.
You see, while we were on our family vacation to Walt Disney World I took my daughter to the washroom. While we were in line waiting, I overheard a lot of conversations and one that stuck in my mind was of 2 young teenage girls, not older than 13 or 14 years. They were both really thin and they were both looking in the mirror. While one was fixing her hair, the other was commenting on how she was so fat (she could have only been 105 lbs or so) All I could think about was “I really do not want my daughter to be that girl.”
It’s hard in our society when there is so much focus in the media about being thin. We need to empower our children (both boys and girls) to not worry about their weight and being thin but rather to be strong and fit. Okay, back to my original point of this post…
I will be going back to tracking my meals in my planner and following the Weight Watchers Smart Point program. Along side with tracking my foods, I am going to try and eat as clean as possible. Healthy fats and lean proteins. This program worked for me, along side with exercise and being active.
Have a great day everyone and thank you for taking the time to be here 🙂
xoxo,
Jen
